We’re a mobile grocery store.

We bring fresh, healthy, affordable food to new places. Our mobile grocery stores carry fruits, veggies, eggs and whole grains, all sold at accessible prices. Keep an eye out for our trucks and buses! At Fresh Routes, we believe that good food stops for you!

Fresh Routes' Mobile Food Market

Fresh Routes‘ Mobile Food Market is a community-driven grocery store on wheels that increases the availability of healthy and affordable foods in underserved neighbourhoods of Calgary.

Leftovers is excited to announce that the Community Mobile Food Market has officially incorporated as its’ own nonprofit social enterprise, Fresh Routes, that will be dedicated to increasing community and household food security. Fresh Routes and Leftovers are looking forward to continued collaboration and working in partnership to address food security in our community.

Why Is This Important:

Not everyone has the same chance to be in healthy of access nutritious food. Financial income, Canada’s geography especially in rural and remote communities can challenge access to quality healthy food. In addition to potential financial constraints, weather, access to transportation and time can limit an individual’s ability to access food. Our goal to increase food access is by bringing the food to communities who may face these barriers.

The market will have a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, bread and some non-perishables. All items are budget friendly – the aim is to be under market value, allowing all individuals to have access to healthy food. Items may vary throughout the pilot based on availability.

The Market is open to all regardless of financial income. Whether you are missing a vegetable for a soup or need a closer store, we will be serving all members of the community.

The goals of the Fresh Routes’ Mobile Food Market are to:

  • Increase access (physical, geographical, financial, educational) to fresh, high quality, culturally-appropriate, fruits, and vegetables for residents in identified food deserts in Calgary neighbourhoods. This includes the reduction of the cost of healthier foods for food desert communities (includes reducing comparative costs (including money spent on transport or childcare as needed) for groceries.
  • Reduce social isolation (increase sense of belonging in communities)
  • Enhance food literacy and skills
Volunteering Opportunities

Interested in volunteering for the market? Fresh Routes’ is looking for volunteers to fill a variety of roles from set-up, take-down, cashier, market coordination, photography, etc. Volunteer shifts vary in length but are typically two-hour shifts at either of the following communities: Sunalta, East Village, Forest Lawn, Pineridge, Bridgeland, Shaganappi, Manchester, Mount Royal University, and Bow Valley College.

Nutrien is so pleased to support this unique and exciting project. Increasing access to healthy, affordable produce where it’s not readily available, is very well-aligned with our focus on food security and eliminating hunger. We are behind this initiative 100%.

What The Community Has To Say

Because of this market, we have been eating like Kings this summer. We are so grateful.

The truck has been VERY beneficial to the neighbourhood. It has brought people from the neighbourhood together, spiritually and socially. I learn something new every time I go!

The truck is helpful with our basic needs of life, and more important it’s financially very good, saving money and getting good quality food.

Thank you so much!!! for bringing the mobile food truck to Bridgeland. I've travelled 40+ minutes one way by transit for more than 8 years to purchase groceries. This is a dream come true.
